Seaford Head 8/8/13

A brilliant morning on the Head today, not really for quantity, but great variety for the first time this autumn. A clear night meant a complete clear out of yesterdays birds, but fortunately many had replaced them. The highlight was a strange hybrid Falcon, being very Kestrel like, but the size of a Saker with an extremely strong flight, long gliding, long wings and a huge size. Totals are:

Nightingale - 2 croaking in Hope Gap
Tree Pipit - 2 flew over
Whinchat - 1 adult female
Redstart - 1 male
Cuckoo - 1 adult
Snipe - 2
Yellow Wagtail - 1
Whitethroat - 35
Willow Warbler - 41
Sedge Warbler - 2
Reed Warbler - 2
Garden Warbler - 1
Blackcap - 2
Green Sandpiper - 1
hybrid Falcon - 1 along cliff edge

hybrid Falcon - although appears very much like a Kestrel,
the huge size, heavy streaking on the flanks, very long wings,
flight pattern and tiger patterning on the mantle does suggest
an abnormal Falcon, but no idea which one.
