Uganda - Day 8 24/6/16

Bigodi Wetlands to Semliki Forest
After yesterdays triumph day, today was never going to be the same, however the wetlands held some great birds for what was a lengthy five hour walk before lunch in what were very hot conditions. The highlight for me was a White-spotted Flufftail that walked into my view only after hearing it several times. After the long walk I was exhausted and nearly fell asleep between the wetland and the guesthouse, a journey of 15 minutes!! Lunch was had then the journey to Semliki was next on the agenda, passing through Fort Portal then edging closer to the Rwenzori Mountains. A couple of stops were had with a few Raptors being the highlight. We stopped briefly in Semliki Forest to sort out a local guide for the morning, who seemed to be tempted by the bananas we had bought him. At the stop, we managed to get told off by a local guide for walking too far into the forest without a guide, though we did find a Blue-throated Brown Sunbird. We stayed at the Vanilla Hotel in a small town 15 minutes south of Semliki, very close now to the Congo border. The locals weren't as friendly here and we were spat at a couple of times, fortunately with closed windows on the vehicle. The hotel was better than expected, and whilst having dinner a swarm of Fruit Bats swept down from the small trees above us.
