Splash Point 12/11/16

A pretty good seawatch with Bob this morning in a strong southerly wind and heavy rain. Not the hoped for Shearwater or Skua fest, but some interesting species seen.

In-accurate totals between 07.20-10.20 are:

Scaup - 2 (1w drk & fem)
Red-throated Diver - 10 + 2 W
Auk sp. - 35 W
Razorbill - 5
Guillemot - 3
Little Gull - 3 adults
Skua sp. - 1 very distant and only seen sporadically in between the wave troughs
Velvet Scoter - 3
Mediterranean Gull - 18
Teal - 1 offshore
Common Scoter - 14
Pintail - 1W
Fulmar - 5
Kittiwake - ca. 30
Gannet - 50 + passing and lingering
Shelduck - 15 W

a strong southerly wind at any time of year is always full of surprises, and these Velvet Scoters were certainly that.

Mediterranean Gulls in good numbers this morning
